Governed by an independent board of directors and working in concert with the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation (PHLF) and other comparable organizations, the Foundation has been granted 501(c)(3) public charity status by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. As a result, the Foundation is able to provide financial support to designated historically significant golf sites, while giving benefactors a tax-deductible means to share in a common mission.
Contributions to the Foundation are used to preserve the historical values of the clubhouses and courses of these particular sites after detailed review and approval by the PHLF or a corresponding organization. Designation as such a landmark requires each site to provide reasonable access to the public and be recognized for having made historic contributions to the game of golf.
